Chapter Four The Fourth Parable The Snowman What Does A Christian Look Like? This parable comes from an encounter I had many years ago with a child’s wisdom. There was a neighbor who had three adorable little boys. Once they had just returned from a visit with their grandparents in Tennessee during the winter months. It had promised to be a special thrill for the boys. Because having been born in Florida this would be their first chance to see and play in snow. The boys had come to visit me and talk about their adventure. Gary, the eldest who I believe was around six at the time, told me he had built a “snowman.” “What did he look like?” I asked. With a look of shock on his face, as if to say, what an incredibly stupid question to ask. With eyes filled with disbelief that I had asked such a useless question, Gary said in a matter of fact voice, “Like a Snowman!” What else would a snowman look like? To Gary, the snowman he made had all of the ingredients of a snowman. Therefore, there was nothing else he could look like. From this encounter God gave me the example of what a Christian would look like. The Christian yielded to the Holy Spirit, has the Fruit of the Spirit manifest in his or her life. Therefore there is nothing else they can look like but a Christian - one who not just believes on Jesus, but one who follows Him as well. A Christian looks like one who daily makes the decision to deny their self, pick up their cross (make a sacrifice of love), and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit - follows Jesus. The snowman can melt under the hot rays of the sun. The Christian also can melt under the heat of temptation. But when that happens we need only place our faith in the Blood of the Son to be restored. The heat of the Fire of Jesus’ kind of Love will not cause us to melt; but rather to radiate the Love of God to others. A Christian looks like one who rejects “religion” with all of its pompous pride and bigotry. A Christian is one who appreciates the awesome relationship which the Blood of Jesus restored with our Father. The Christian does not take for granted having in residence within the same Holy Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead. A Christian is aware of the power and responsibility we have not to live as a weak powerless “religious” person. We have the ability to live as the redeemed sons and daughters of God! We have the ability to show forth in our life, the Fruit of the Spirit; bringing the light of God’s Love to souls lost in darkness. The Christian is one seeking to bring Honor and Glory to their Heavenly Father. To the Christian the commandments of God are not a joke, for they are written upon our heart. Yet the Christian is not perfect, we can and sometimes do fall into temptation and fail to obey a commandment of God. When we do, we miss the peace which having a righteous relationship with God brings to our life. Whenever we do fall and fail, with sincere sorrow we take our failure to Jesus. We ask of Him by the power of His Blood, to cleanse, forgive, and restore our relationship again. Jesus is our advocate with our Father. Lastly, the Christian tries their very best to base the decisions they make in life, on the foundation of the first and second commandments of God. No, the Christian is not perfect. We sometimes foolishly do not follow the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we allow satan or our flesh to lead us astray. Our Father never revoked our free will; for He wishes to see us choose to obey Him because we love Him so deeply. Sometimes we fail to show love to our brother, as we should. Our love for God and our brother is not perfect. But God’s Love for us is perfect, every moment of our life. “Perfect Love cast out fear” (1 John, chapter 4, verse 18). I once heard a very profound statement, “the saints were all sinners, who kept on trying.” The Christian, being a follower of Christ, has access to the One whose perfect sacrifice on the cross gives to us the power to turn repentance into redemption. We have within us the Spirit of Truth, Who has revealed to us the Messiah. By the Spirit of Truth we have revealed to us the mission of the Messiah. We understand His sacrifice on the cross, and the power of His Blood to restore our relationship to purity in the eyes of our Father. It is by the Spirit of Truth that we are set free from the bondage of sin; we can cry “ABBA” (DADDY) to our Heavenly Father. There is No Religion on earth or anywhere else which can give you the Spirit of Truth (the Holy Spirit of God). He does not reside in religion! He is our portion of inheritance we receive when we make the decision to be “born again” by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit does NOT minister “Religion” to anyone! The Holy Spirit helps us to grow spiritually mature, that we might enjoy a Love relationship with God, and all of our brothers and sisters. Unlike the snowman that can only be seen in a particular season; the Christian - one who sincerely desires to follow Jesus, by yielding to the power, wisdom, and guidance of the Holy Spirit, can be seen all year round. To those who may be in doubt, I urge you not to look to see a Christian - rather look to become one. Come to the Savior of the world. Allow Him not only to restore your relationship with your Father, but give you your inheritance as well - the Kingdom of God within you. The Love is so great which Jesus has for you and I. We need only to acknowledge we are a sinner, and desire Him to cleanse and save our soul. “Ask and you will receive!” “God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Once you have become “born again,” you need only to ask of your Father to give you the power to live an abundant life, as you travel on the narrow road toward eternity. You will discover an abundant life has nothing to do with an abundance of things and the riches of this world. It is found in spiritual maturity, learning to have the wisdom to seek first the Kingdom of God, and store up eternal treasure in Heaven. Perhaps you are a dusty or rusty Christian. You may not have pursued God and His ways as seriously as you should. Don’t despair, we all have sinned, do sin, and fall short of the glory of God. If this is your situation the answer rest with you. Where is the treasure of your heart to be found? You need only to ask in sincerity for Jesus to cleanse and restore you. You already know that by your diligence He will reward you. If you have been lacking the power of the Holy Spirit in your life, perhaps because you never were told He was available to you. Then simply be diligent in seeking Him to guide your life. Again, your Father will reward your diligence. We all need to have the ingredients in our spiritual life which will cause us to look like a Christian, if we choose to call our self one. To every reader I pray, May God Richly Bless you and give to you the Desires of your Heart.
